How has Covid-19 Affected Us So Far?

One way or another, we’ve all been affected by Covid-19. We’re living through a pretty big part of history that will be written about in the textbooks, which is pretty crazy to think.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to document these disrupted times. So, here’s a small rundown of how we’ve been affected by Coronavirus.

Staying indoors

We began social distancing before the lockdown was put into place. There reached a point just after Edith’s birthday where I started to feel uneasy about the whole situation. So, I decided that it would be best for us to all start staying indoors, in preparation for what was to come.

I won’t lie, it’s been a struggle staying indoors. Now, I know that I’m a stay-at-home Mum to Edith, so we do spend a lot of time indoors anyway. However, we always had the freedom of popping out if we needed to, or just if we wanted to!

What I am seriously missing is seeing our family and friends. It’s amazing just how much we used to see those closest to us and now we’re just suddenly not able to do that. It’s an adjustment. We have, of course, been in contact with people via messages, or video calling. So, thank goodness we have those options available to us.

Online Food Shopping

This is one that we haven’t been able to do, which we would normally. Weekly, I would do an online food shop, however in the grand scheme of things, it’s not the worst thing that could be happening to us.

Max has taken one for the team and has done the food shopping for us, which has been super helpful. Mainly because I can’t stand going out to do a food shop!
I think out of all of my ‘jobs’, food shopping is definitely at the top of the lists of things that I don’t enjoy doing. I do get a sense of satisfaction when it would arrive though!

Stock piling food?!

I can wholeheartedly say that I am absolutely not one of those people that has been hoarding certain items. I don’t like buying more than what we need. However, there were a few times where I began to feel nervous at the thought of running out of certain items and not knowing when I’d be able to restock. Those items were toilet roll and nappies.

We actually reached a point where we were very close to running out of toilet roll, to the point where we couldn’t buy any and we were down to the last sheets on the last roll! Luckily, some of my friends came to our rescue, so we weren’t quite using rags to wipe our bums!

Nappies began to be a slight worry. We only had a few left, so I began to weigh up our options, which were: 1. Do we panic and try to find nappies in Edith’s size, or 2. Do we look at the idea of doing potty training.

We decided to the latter option and have since decided to try and get Edith dry during the day. She has known for a while what to do on the potty, so it seemed the best time to give it a good go. Look out for an update on how we get on!

Working from home

So, Max has been working from home since everything began to shut down. I can’t comment on how he’s finding it, but I can comment on how Edith and I have found it.

If I’m totally honest, it’s been really lovely having that extra company during the day. Sure, he’s upstairs working (and has been really good at being strict with his working hours), but it’s nice to be able to have lunch together every day, and just to know that he’s in the house with us.

Edith has struggled a little bit though with being able to understand why her Daddy can’t sit downstairs with us all day every day, but can at weekends. She has decided though that when she wakes up in the mornings that she’s going to do ‘work on Daddy’s seat’ (her words), which means Max lets her sit on his work chair before we start the day downstairs.

More garden time

Since being confined to our home, we have definitely made use of our garden. Whenever the weather has been nice, we have been outside. It’s been so nice to be able to sit and play with Edith but in the sunshine, and without putting anyone at risk. Edith has loved it too.

We are pretty fortunate to have a big garden, so there’s been plenty of room for her to blow of steam. She’s also helped Max plant some seeds for various veg, so hopefully we end up with a good crop in the garden this year!

So, that’s been it for us, so far. How are you getting on?
